Madness and magic from Maradona’s motherland
Style, that’s what Argentine football players do well. Oodles of style.
They may struggle as a team, but Argentine football has never been about the team, more individual brilliance.
So here are a selection of the best goals ever scored by the Argentine national squad, in no particular order, and not including the obvious contenders by Diego Maradona.
Javier Zanetti: One of the cheekiest, and classiest, free-kicks ever, and on the grandest stage of all to boot as England concede at the 1998 World Cup.
Zanetti catches England cold in St Etienne
Esteban Cambiasso: Again, at the World Cup - this time in 2006 against Serbia & Montenegro - and when I said Argentina never play like a team, I lied.
Hernan Crespo: The Inter Milan striker finishes in remarkable style against Colombia in 1995. The build-up to the goal isn't bad either.
Maxi Rodriguez: Stunning volley from the Atletico Madrid man sends Argentina into the 2006 World Cup last eight at Mexico's expense.
Aimar: The former Valencia midfielder converts from close range against Bolivia, but in some style.
Maxi: "Have a bit of this"
Sergio Aguero: ‘El Kun’ stakes his place for a call-up to the senior side and impresses future father-in-law Maradona with this cracking effort at the U20 World Cup in Toronto against Poland.
Lionel Messi: 'The Flea' chips in against Mexico at the 2007 Copa America.
