FourFourTwo 50 Best Football League Players

Sunday 02 March 2008 22:30

Ladies and gentlemen, here it is, FourFourTwo’s definitive rundown of the 50 Best Football League players.

This is our fourth annual Top 50 and, as ever, it’s been a fraught process, involving painstaking research, meticulous planning, copious amounts of booze and good, healthy argument.

Our thanks to every one of you who cast your votes, and to our team of experts who told us who they thought were the best players up and down the country.

Congratulations to Kevin Phillips, Jermaine Beckford, Keith Andrews and Michael Kightly who walked away with the individual prizes.

Congratulations, too, to the other 46 players who make up our list, all of you deserve a huge pat on the back for their endeavours this season.

To the other 1,000-plus players in the Football League – pull your fingers out! We hope to see you next year…

Chris Brunt or Derek Holmes?

Hmmmm...

How any League 1 or 2 player is in there is baffling, if they were good enough they'd be in the Championship.

Adriano Basso but no Heinz Muller, are you having a laugh? Muller is quite easily the best keeper outside the Premier League, and better than most in it, as is proved by Arsenal,Liverpool and Villa's interests.

Also how on earth are players like James Beattie,Wes Hoolahan and David Norris above Brian Howard? Felipe Texeria should be way further up, and wheres Lewin Nyatanga and Anderson De Silva?

wayne hennessy is clearly the best keeper in this league, 21 yeas old and being tracked by the like of everton, portsmouth and villa.

also sylvan ebanks-blake is the top goal scorer, again only 21 years old and is the best striker outside of the premiership.

finally, how has andy gray made second, what has he done except score 8 goals this season???
