Funny but out of all the teams that played this season, Flamengo was quite possibly the most boring. To me the best team is still Palmeiras followed by Gremio & Corinthians.

The best game of the weekend though was Atletico Mineiro vs Corinthians, Carini absorbed another goal that's sure to become a YouTube special and it ended up costing Celso Roth his job at the end of the evening and Corinthians did it in Tsunami-like conditions and without Ronaldo.

Nilmar is a tremendous player and generally underrated in Europe.

I really do think that at the right club he can establish himself amongst the 'top band' of strikers across the world. The guy has everything needed to become a goal machine.

I also think credit must be given to Internacional who have allowed him to progress and helping him return to and maintain full fitness after his injuries which could of quite easily scarred his ability.

The extraordinary lengths top Brazilian clubs go to with regards to physically preparing their players is too often overlooked but Europe.

I really hope Nilmar can push on with the Selecao and become one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup.

It was a good header but lets not get carried away, he scored it against one of the most anemic looking English Squads I've seen in a long time.

If I were England I'd be making excuses not to go, they were outclassed by a Brazilian squad that wasn't even in scalp-hunter mode. England seriously needs to rethink their entire National Team, its not really about the coach but about the players who play like they're mostly interested in preserving their shiny white kit than in getting dirty. It starts with Rooney but trickles down entire line... time to start showing a little pride and heart.

I don't know but with a Grê-Nal derby at hand, and Vitoria having the third campaing in the 2nd round, I wouldn't put Grêmio and Vitória -both with 44 points- out of the picture just yet...

Palmeiras still looks like the team to beat, Did you see Ramalho's press conference? This guy has the thousand yard stare, he's psyched to win this thing even though they have lost 3 straight matches and despite that Vagner Love penalty miss against Flamengo.

Atlético Mineiro looked OK against São Paulo but couldn't take care of Botafogo? And why is it every goal scored against Carini make him look hopelessly useless? The one that comes to mind is the Barueri cartoon goal that floated right over his head... he also got very-very lucky against São Paulo. I think CAM will slip in the standings.

Celso, your allegation that Uruguay was the first South American side to lose to an Intercontinental series is completely wrong.

Bolivia lost to Hungary in the intercontinental series played for the 1978 World Cup... it should be noted that Hungary not only beat Bolivia by a 6-0 blowout in Budapest but also won the "High Altitude" game played in La Paz, Bolivia by a 3-2 score line.

Brazil are too strong on the counter but behind that they are just an average team led by some supreme individuals like Kaka, Lucio, Robinho, Maicon. (Also Cesar).

The key will be to break down Argentina, though patiently and then counter. Fast. Elano's creativity will make Brazil better while the loose diamond formation/4-2-3-1 on Brazil will see Melo try and stop Messi on the right.

Heinze can be very poor especially against power therefore Maicon should be too strong.

i agree with dhabibe, you only wrote about players in Sao Paulo. Sorin, Doval, Fillol were way more important than some of the players you listed. But they didn't play in Sao Paulo. And I don't know if you notice, but Mancuso was way more important in Flamengo but you only wrote about him in Palmeiras.

The championship is very tight at both ends of the table. Flu, Vasco could easily go down this year whilst five clubs have a realistic chance of winning the title, like you say.

My personal opinion is that Sao Paulo will win it. They seem to be coming into form at just the right time. I also think Vasco will go down- just!

the truth is that no one in Brasil can take it anymore from Dunga, we all pray to Dunga go home watch some tv and left the Selecao to a real coach, couse it is his first experience in this job. The biggest mistake was put him in this position, couse some beleves that his passion as player would be the same as coach, but it is not. he has afraid to risk and make the player go foword as a real Selecao Brasileira always been. Everybody in Brazil have contience that put him also in olympic team besides main team, is a strategy to take him out off the job in the case he doesnt got the gold. This job he is doing well. (sorry my bad english)

If not properly treated Scolari could walk out? I'm sure Abramovich would think, bothered! A dozen (if not many more) managers could do his job, but owners as munificent as Abramovich, there exists only one. And if he walked Scolari would lose his money, a main motivation for taking the job as he's admitted.

Brazilian coaches haven't suceeded at the top in Europe which I'm sure will motivate him, but the Portuguese are pretty scathing about Scolari's tactics and methods (as was Mourinho) and if someone as clever and proud as Jose found himself outmanouvered by the Russian, what of the rather more traditional Brazilian?

The Conmebol masterminds... So if Flu beats LDU by two in Maracanã, we'll have extra time - and penalties if necessary. To take the title in the first 90 minutes, only with a three goal lead. That's not easy...

I completely agree with all that you've said.

The best thing that Dunga has done so far is to choose talent from the so-called smaller clubs (Diego from Werder Bremen, Rafinha from Schalke, Vagner Love from CSKA etc) and build a team of 11 players to form a superb team, not get 11 superb individuals to stand around on the pitch.

Give Robinho the number 10!

Going back to Brazil was not his best idea in my opinion. Over there they have a higher expectation of what they should expect from him whereas I think in Europe the mentality for rehabilitating a broken player is a lot more professional and orderly.

If he had joined someone in Europe like in France or Germany (or even with Sam Allardyce when he was at Newcastle) he would still be able to play a european style and not have deal with the chaos that goes on behind the scenes in Brazilian football and I think this would have helped him more.

Romario and Edmundo are two of few guys in the world that have to work in order to receive a huge amount of money that already belong to them.
