What are you talking about? Serie A is our equivalent of the Premiership in England. It's the top football league in the country. It has the same number of teams and therefore number of matches too. Just because it isn't called the Premier League, doesn't mean it isn't the top league in the country or one of the better ones in Europe.

Serie A is not the Italian equivalent of the Premiership, it's the Italian equivalent of the old First Division, it still associates itself with the lower Serie B and C leagues, there is no independant hierarchy, no independant sponsership or tv deals.  Serie A breaking and calling itself something along the lines of 'Lega Prima' would create that individuality and make you the Italian Premiership, and not just the First Division, associated with 3 others.

Cristiano Ronaldo was bowled over by his player of the year award.

Even though slow-motion replays showed that it clearly never touched him.

Astafjevs you are one smart guy. Why is the Serie A not getting as good a coverage as La Liga here on UK  television ?

I just don't think it's as an attractive a prospect as La Liga. The football in La Liga is, admittedly, of better attacking quality. I think some TV broadcasters haven't got themselves away from the stereotype that Italian football is boring and defensive. While it is more defensively orientated, there is still some great attacking play - there has to be to breach Serie A back-lines.

Then there's the question of which station would cover it. Sky already have the Premiership and La Liga, Serie A would get in the way of that. ITV, Channel 4 and Five can't give it the attention it deserves. La Liga coverage is successful in this country because Sky put effort into showing live games and having highlights shows. Five just showed one live game (despite having another channel), and a quick highlights package the next Saturday.

Another uninformed comment. The only way the Premiership isn't associated with the leagues below is in TV, sponsorship and the people who run the league. Other than that, it is the top football league in England, the same way as Serie A is the top football league in Italy. Just because we haven't rebranded and milked the money that comes with top level football doesn't put the Premiership any higher.

The Premiership still accepts promotion from the leagues below. In the same way Serie A accepts promotion from Serie B, Prima Divisione e.t.c. Serie A also has independent sponsorship, from TIM. In the same way the Premiership has independent sponsorship from Barclays.

There are also independent TV deals in Italy. The difference is each club in Serie A can sell their own TV rights - the Serie A broadcasting rights do not come as a whole package.

But to be honest with you, I'm glad Serie A hasn't completely followed the Premiership in terms of off-the-pitch running.

You have 496 posts at the time of writing this, yet I struggle to pinpoint any significant contribution you make to this forum. You post in every single thread going, and instead of contributing to discussion you post short sentences of around 10 words max. No elaboration, no nothing.

If you're going to make such a stupid comment, at least back it up. You clearly do not watch any Serie A whatsoever.

Actually I waztched it when it was on channel 5.
