Four honours in his time at United so far, including two Premier League titles [two more than Gerrard] and 77 goals. He was 18 when he signed for United and obviously a player for many years to come. When his United career is over we'll see how worth it the fee was.

I've seen more talent on the streets outside the Councils in Manchester. Rooney was a good buy, but suffers of lack of consistency.. (1 game: 2goals then doesnt score again in the next 4 games) I'd hate to say i told you so- but he's not a future world player of the year by a long shot- though he has time on his side to prove me wrong

He's part of the new Man Utd Trinity, so he's being compared to the old Trinity, which let's face it were amazing.  If Utd see it fit to compare him to the greats then it says something about how they view him at least.

Cristiano Ronaldo was bowled over by his Ballon D'or...

Although slow-motion replays showed that it clearly never touched him.

Anyone who slags him off simply hasn't watched him week in, week out.  His work rate, assists and general play is second to none.  There was something I read earlier in the week about ronaldo and rooney topping this chart, think it was a combined goals and assists in the premier league chart.  Says it all really.  Although he is a much better player than ronaldo, who often contributes little to matches then pops up with a goal or two.  Not meaning to take a swipe at ronaldo, but i know who i'd rather see go outta the two, and i think the majority of man u fans (who actually watch all the matches) would agree.

I'm not doubting the lad has talent but since he was at Everton and Euro 2004 he hasn't produced the same sort of displays against quality opposition. This for a number of reasons.

    1) Not being played consistently( if at all) in his suited position as a 2nd striker

    2) Has lost the 'unknown' tag that he had at Everton & Euro 2004 meaning teams know what his strengths are.

    3) Media hype built him into a world beater and he has fallen short (not by his own fault) of these expectations

    4) The succes of Ronaldo who is of similar age and was half the cost of Rooney, leads to fans seeing him as an underachiever.

No proper United fans see Rooney has an underachiever!!!   The man scored a fecking hat-trick on his debut for god's sake!!! At Everton in Rooney's last season, he was 18 and scored 9 goals in 40 apps, as a fully fledged forward, not a world beater even back then, Pato and Messi demolish that feat happily.  Rooney's first year at United? Aged 19, scored 17 goals in 43 apps, as a shadow striker, I think we can all agree that that's very decent. His workrate is fantastic, likewise is Carlos Tevez's. He's not over-rated, for christ's sake!

When he scored a hat trick on his debut it showed us how good he could be. But United wasted him.

Then why is Dirk Kuyt so underrated when he and rooney are so alike, except Rooney scores a few more goals, is younger, but let me tell you - kuyt works harder, assists more, and is used on the wing but still scores vital goals and if kuyt was used as a second striker he would have scored more than rooney.

So Rooney' s work rate, assists and general play IS second. to Kuyt.

I would agree with the first 3 points. As soon as Fergie plays him in his proper position he will return to the form he showed at Euro 2004 and in his first season at Man Utd.
