My all time favourite football tournament apart from the World Cup, So i thought i would give people updates

Messi 1 goal and assist helped Argentina defeat Ivory Coast, Lautaro Acosta scored the other for Argentina. Sekou Cisse scored for Ivory Coast but Gervinho was the main talking point on Ivory Coast's behalf who tortured the Argentina backline.

Nigeria and Holland both failed to score in a 0-0 draw, Jonathan De Guzman was the main creator for Holland but Roy Makaay failed to make an effect. Odemwingie was the main star for Nigeria.

Stuart Holden's strike against Japan gave USA a suprise 3 points. Both teams were catious and Morimoto, one of Japan's hot prospects falied to deliver when Japan needed him to finish. Nishikawa the Japan goalkeeper made a calamity over a simple save on Holden's shot.

Any match reports would be welcome as I'm still unsure when the games are on so I may miss some, so please start commenting!

     Hmmm interesting....

You find this a more interesting/better than a European Championship or Copa libertadores 4 example???

didn;t even mention the championship 4 clubteams or how's that tournament  just before the worldcup called??with the european, the southamerican winner etc etc etc...

Cause to me it;s the most shity tournament with empty places(look at the last final in Athens :(  )

not much atmosphere because off that, and so many players that you;ll hardly see back again or heard about+the fact that there are

dispensationplayers on each tournament(there goes the olympic thought)and the same arguments between, clubs, countries and fifa/uefa/cas...

so i'm quite interested what makes you enjoy this??probably the not yet spotted talent on the tournaments(pato this year???)

because in my opinon the only one that really got name was Romario.

Furtherone a lot of players played it but were or already discoverd or discoverd afterwards...

so tell me.....cause i am curious and for the others opinions offcourse since this is a forum.....

I understand your point but the style of play is great and with many Young players coming to Premiership and other big leagues at 17 and 18 hardly get games but at this tournament they have the chance to show the world what they are like. I also think that becasue in my opinion the mood is relaxed these Younger players dont have as much pressure and makes them perform better. But how do you class a player as being "discovered" in my opinion as a fan I discovered Tevez and Mascherano at the last olympics so it really depands how much you are into football, if ou only care about English teams than you will discover a player later than someone like yourself who obviously is very into all continental football. Though like you I am interested in all football competitions. Although I'am an England supporter I also like this tournament because no British nations are in if they were it would ruin the tournament because much of the media would only focus on the home nations and pile pressure on them. Its hard for me to find coverage of the Copa Libatadores it so I cant really comment on whether it is a good competion or not. Most nations also put alot of effort into the competion because it could be one of their only medal hopes. But its entirely up to you on what your thoughts are about this competition, I hope this answered your question

Sorry if this is an incorrect view but you and wolfman seem to just have a go at anything i say when frankly im typing fairly acceptable comments. If you are going to be like this then just dont put anything in this thread if its all going to be negative. I really enjoy contributing to this thread and nearly all the people on this forum are friendly and nice apart from you two who seem to have a real hate towards me. If this untrue then I apoligise for the misassumption.

Moving on what is everyone's predictions on who will win the Olympic gold medal and who will be the main attraction. In my opinion it will be Pato but Messi and Riquelme will be fantastic to watch as well but Gervinho performed exceptionally in the first match. I'm against Brazil decision on bringing Ronaldinho to the squad, there are younger players who have been more consistent of late and its time Ronaldinho should be left out the Brazil squad until he shows the world he is not fading

As soon as I typed this comment above I found out Ronaldinho scored 2 in a 5-0 thrashing of New Zealand.

Pato, Anderson and Rafeal Sobis scored the restof the goals in this fantastic and entertaining match. Pato, one of the players disappointed some critics in the first game against Belgium showed a significant improvement in this game slipped the ball through the jumbled New Zealand defence towards Anderson who only scored from the rebound shot after the first had been blocked. The first goal coming in at 3 minutes meant that Brazil were relaxed and able to play their best so it wasn't suprising that within 34 minutes Pato had doubled the score. The goal was created by a neat 1-2 between Ronaldinho and Marcelo before Marcelo crossed the ball in to which Pato connected with cross ball with his head which hit the net.

In the Second Half Ronaldinho became the star of the show, his beautifully curled freekick started things off for him at the 55th minute before He created the penalty after a mistimed tackle by Sam Jenkins and then also converted it. By now the whole stadium was cheering at this great performance by Brazil. The AC Milan star also shushed critics (including me) who thought would offer very little to the squad. Then in stoppage time Rafeal Sobis finished things of with a smart finish after a great part to play Sobis in from the Liverpool player Lucas. This is what it is meant by when people describe football as the "Beautiful game" and showed that Brazil, as usual have alot of great up and coming players but more importantly Ronaldinho may not be finished yet. Dunga himself said "Everybody played well today, not just Ronaldinho. You could see that smile of his again today. Let's not forget that he hasn't played for four months, but talented players like him quickly find their way into a game,"

    China vs. Belgium

Belgium cruised through against hosts China with a 2-0 win. The first goal early on from striker Dembele saw him dummying one defender then skipping around another 2 before he placed his shot in the right corner of the net. The second goal even better after a fantastic through ball by de mul left Kevin Mirallas almost deserted approach the the box before slamming the ball in the bottom left hand corner. This put Belgium in 2 points ahead of China and New Zealand who are both on the brink of exiting the competition.
