What soccer club is the greatest then and why?

i'd go  for ajax as they have had a lot of european european success whilst bringing players through their youth team unlike real madrid who have always out spent their rivals.

Haha, loving this thread!! A poster with sense - I would say a resounding yes.

Being serious, it's difficult to define. We are statistically the most decorated club in the World though, so we must be close.

I would say historically, going right the way back to your founding, you are the greatest side.  But in more recent history (i.e. Premiership onwards)  that crown has to go to Manchester United.

Of course you would say that, for that specific era too. But what exactly have you based that on? League titles don't count when looking at the best side in the World (using trophies as a count).

Real Madrid for the amount of success both domestically and in Europe.

taking everything into account (titles, money, fanbase, playing staff, coaching staff, growth within these certain aspects) Manchester United are the best team of recent times, had Munich not occurred I would lay claim to us being the best of all time, but I know that is not the case.

Real Madrid are the best team ever.

The only thing that needs to be taken into account is trophies. Everything else ( players, managers ,fans, money etc) comes and goes. Titles stay with clubs forever in their history as fact. I hate all the talk that gets banded about by fans who say argue that they are the 'greatest club' because 'we have so many fans in Asia!' or that ' we are the richest club'. It's as if they've all been brainwashed by Peter Kenyon. Only because your the biggest or richest,  does not mean your the greatest!
