    Haha, we've all been told!!

No, it shouldn't. Silly idea, just promotes an even larger gap between those who have and those who do not.

This would interesting to see and could be a way of delaying the creation of  a European Super League as a 10 team league means the money would be split by 50% less teams and as a current place in the FA Premier League is worth £60 million then a place should be £120 million thus tempting enough one things for englsih clubs to refuse a European super League in the short term.

Plus perhaps enough to get each stadium in the FA Premier League a retractable roof over the pitch and an 80,000 all-seated capacity.

Perhaps reduce a bit of waste in football through a bit of consolidation with local teams merging or at least sharing stadia!

Shopping malls at stadia and razz ma tazz at stadia regardless of the weather.

Playing each other four times, meaning 36 games, meaning two full houses less of gate receipts...

Do you think the idea would get a majority vote among the 20 Premier League chairpeople?

No but there was talk of creating a ten team top flight in 1988 called the ITV ten (so somthing similar) with 10 clubs!

It would have started with these ten team

    (1) Man United

    (2) Liverpool

    (3) Arsenal

    (4) Everton

    (5) Tottenham Hotspur

    (6) Nottingham Forest

    (7) Sheffield Wednesday

    (8) Newcastle United

    (9) West Ham

    (10) Aston Villa

Stevens do you not have anything better to do?  This idea would never get off the ground, all the top leagues have 20 teams.

Cristiano Ronaldo was bowled over by his player of the year award.

Even though slow-motion replays showed that it clearly never touched him.

Yeah but the top flight was a very different animal in 1988 - that was a year before Hillsborough and the subsequent Taylor Report. That was back when Thatcher hated football and it's fans, the vast majority of the 'decent folk' hated us, there was very little money around and something radical needed to be done to save it from dying on it's a*se. A ten team league would begin to resemble that affront to sport called the NFL.

Thers nothing wrong with the NFL I enjoy it but then I enjoy most sports.

    10 man league?

Dude I mean guv them "Exotic" Ciggarettes must be strong where your at

But seriously I dont think so one poster put it perfectly above when he said it would just widen the gap between the haves and have nots.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense

There are 32 teams in the NFL and it is in no danger of dying out. What is the basis for your comparison?

I didn't say the NFL was in danger of dying out. I said English football as it was pre-Hillsborough was dying out.

The comparison to NFL was the subdivision of the teams into tiny, crappy leagues. There may be 32 teams but they don't play each other home and away. They only play 16 games or so then a couple of games to get to the Superbowl. While this is obviously necessary over there where distance is more of an obstacle, here there is no reason half the size of league.

The reason I called it an affront to sport, was because, well, it is. I takes aeons to play a game that lasts for an hour, it keeps stopping mere seconds after it resarts. In my humble opinion American Football games are only good for ten minutes of highlights, maximum per game. Going to see them live (and I have) can produce greater feelings of suicide than having Coldplay following you around constantly.

Basically just no. It would just seperate the richer clubs even more from the rest.

There are times when I'd like the Premier League to be cut to four teams and relocated to the middle of the Pacific, then the rest of us could get on with it in peace...
