OK,
I'm big enough and ugly enough to accept that Edgar Street - the home of football and Hereford United - may just win this one hands down. Victory!
For football purists though, I think there's still a place for theatres such as that of the Bulls. It's barely changed in 30+ years, and remains what older footballing folk would call a 'proper ground' - a refreshingly traditional venue compared to the likes of stadium:mk, Walker's Stadium, Pride Park, Darlington Arena etc etc which are all exactly the same bar the colour schemes.
Yes, the toilets are shocking and - particularly for the female fan - unacceptable. But come on gents, you're at the football for folks sake. They don't have to be shiny and sparkly and have jumbo-jet like hand dryers like Wembley that scare the sh*t out of you when they come on.
Biased excepted, I'd take a tin-shed like Edgar Street that has a fair degree of character over the flat-pack new stadiums going up in Shrewsbury, Colchester and Cardiff any day of the week. Granted, that's the way new stadia have to be designed these days, fact o'life, and it'll be a sad day if Hereford ever move into a new purpose-built constuction rather than have the four stands at Edgar Street gradually redeveloped.
As for my worst ground in League 1? A tough call considering they are all pretty much havens compared to the Macclesfields, Canvey Islands, Hayes, Leigh RMIs and Barnets I've experienced in the not so distant past in League 2 and the Conference.
I'm not a huge fan of Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium though. The one main stand looks like it's been pinched off a racecourse (which it has, hasn't it?!) whilst the blue/white striped awnings above two of the other stands would be more at home in the circus.
Pot, kettle... I know!
