    Subject: Foreign players.

Ok this is something I have been pondering for some time now, right people are whinging about how many foreign players are in the Premier league, does this not show the social process of the country, we have people of other cultures working in every field in this country, so why should sport suffer. I think UEFA are looking for a way to stop our European dominance.

Introduce a little anarchy, disturb the natural order and everybody loses their mind.

I see your point, in my view the foreign players have helped the Premier league become one of the very best in the world. If the lack of English players is bothering people, they need to start bothering that English players are not getting in on merit. It's just a question of finding the right balance. It is only a good thing for the league that players form abroad are wanting to play in this country.

Everybody would be moaning if the league was failing to attract overseas talent but they also moan about too many being here.

English players are way down on quality but I think ther should only be 10 foreigners per first team. Arsenal have 23 foreigners in their first team.

Foreign players are good to the PL clubs, but what about the National Team? There were no England at the Euro 2008-so is this right? I don’t think so, and my opinion is that limit to legionnaires is necessary to Premier League teams. Yes, of course the golden mean is needed. Some players can realize their potential only if they have constant practice, and if they don’t they stopped in their development-people are differs-someone need a stimulus to work harder, someone not. But clubs owners demand trophies and they don’t care about National Team, it is more simple to them to buy Brazilian player, than to grow up an English football player – cause they want a results here and now.

Can i just take a moment to nip this - european dominance?!?! -  right in the bud, this seasons 3 out of 4 teams in the semi's is not going to be an annual occurence. Yet again English teams importance in Europe is reaching hysteria level - have you learned nothing from Euro 2008? UEFA have no reason to conspire against English teams, they bring nothing new to the table - indeed, the majority of the champions league sponsors that provide the mammoth pots of gold are based on the continent. As Platini and Blatter have both pointed out - the premiership might be where the money is at - but Austria/Switzerland was where the FOOTBALL was.

English teams were more dominant in Europe in the 70's/mid 80's with British based squads. In this period the national team was still inferior to our foreign counterparts. My opinion is that foreigners may have prevented the quantity of homegrown players playing at the top level at home/europe but have raised the quality of the English game. Meaning that the homegrown players have to be of outstanding quality to succeed at this level.

In my humble opinion a foreign player should have something xtra;s!!!!

i think and know(6+5 rule) that uefa is busy with this but probably cant manage it cause

of the european rules :(  (discrimenation)!!For me 3 max on the pitch and 2 on the bench would be more as enough!!

This would make a quarter of the selection!!and  i always loved the kick and rush football i think seeing the spirit of a country in the game is nice...

I'm getting fed up with all those brazilians in every team in every leaugue

And be honest :english domination in europe take your top 4 teams and try to manage a british team,,,

In other words how british is your domination??/

Feyenoord is not a matter of life or death,it is much more than that!

As i mentioned in a previous post the teams of the English teams of the 70/80's were full of British based players, thats why the success they had could be credited to British football. In todays game, British football cannot take as much credit due to the major foreign influence (i.e players, managers, investors).

However, this does not mean that British football can no longer be called ' British' because of the influence of foreigners. Many of the top four's best players are homegrown ( Gerrard, Carragher, Scholes, Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole.) And the style of football played is still the 'Kick and Rush' football.

The fact that Gus Hiddink criticised the level of quality and technique displayed at the CL Final, only confirms that British football still has an identifiable brand no matter how many foreigners have graced these shores past or present.

Because most foreigners don't want to play in the Scottish League.

Good news for Cal and Tom and Chris (and any other people in our area)!  Hull City have the highest proportion of English players in their squad in the Premiership, so at least we've won something this season.

I feel too many foreigners are in the Premier League and therefore ruining the development of the National teams. Yes, they provide entertainment and we love them for that, but all we strive for is a good international team especially England.

I think Sepp Blatter's idea of the six plus five rule is absolutely fabulous. It helps develop International teams as well as creating a strong string of homegrown players into our academies therefore blossoming it.

Six plus five will enhance football forever in a positive way!

Its nothing to do with the Scottish League, the fact is foreigners come for the cash. They know they can earn more money playing for a rubbish English League two side than they could playing for the likes of Aberdeen against Bayern in the UEFA Cup and so they chase the coin. The real mugs here are teams at the bottom of the Championship/top of league 2 who are paying ten grand a week for foreign mercenaries who are no better than the youngsters earning £800 a week at Motherwell, Hibs etc.

I think that the English national side would not gain anything from less foreigners in the Premier League. I doubt that the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and Rooney would have been so good unless they would had played against players like van Nistelrooy, Henry, Bergkamp, Stam and Ronaldo.

If you use the 6+5 rule some players might become slightly better by playing regularly against worldclass players, but they won't go from mediocre to worldclass.

Instead you should try and improve your academies. Many english footballers say that there was someone better than them when they were kids who gave up the sport. You should try and get this "someone" to continue.

In Sweden there was a kid that that wanted to quit football. His coaches managed to convince him to continue. His name was Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

And I would also like to say that the reason for that England haven't won anything since 1966 is bad luck. Just look at Spain, they just won their first title since 1964. England's time will come.

Over 40 years of bad luck? The law of averages suggests that somewhere along their trophyless line of international tournaments they would have been knocked out due to something other than bad luck.

Otherwise, you can make a case for Brazil, Italy or Germany. You could say Brazil have had 60 years of good luck to win all those World Cups. Again, somewhere you would have to think that another factor took over - quality perhaps.
