Subject: European super League are you for it or against?

Hard question to answer however I can sse the case for and against the creation of a European Super League in Football, i think I am for it beucase it is the best way of finding outwhich soccer club is the best in europe each seaon (provided that the competition is based on merit with promtion and relegation each season based only on merit) and no luck of the draw like you get in knockout format.

I am unsure if there ever will be one (may have tried but none have so far been sucessful).

    thanks

It will make it impossible for all but the richest fans to follow their clubs all the way through the season. And every game will end up on SKY because no one will be able to outbid them, so people will just stay at home, crowds will decrease and therefore so will club revenue, and they'll soon realise that the Euro Super League wasn't as lucrative as they first thought.

Cristiano Ronaldo was bowled over by his player of the year award.

Even though slow-motion replays showed that it clearly never touched him.

Against!!Infect i would like to see the old sytem back with the champions!!

and yes also the ones from Luxemburg,Belgium,Romenia etc and knock out again!!

The cup winners cup back and the Uefa cup as it is with a poule system at first

If you create a "super"leaugue this will infect your own competion the distance between clubs will become bigger and bigger

Cup Winners Cup was taken away for a reason - it doesn't garner interest. It has 3rd rate clubs, so it would contain each league's equivalent of Blackburn. Nobody wants to watch it, and it just devalues European competition by having such a crappy tournament.

Having a Champions League full of league champions makes sense, but just makes it more predictable and less exciting. People want to see the best Europe has. Unfortunately, the 4th best Spanish side will always be better than the Romanian or Belgian champions. Therefore we know the Champions League will be won by one of 3 clubs: English, Italian or Spanish champions. Maybe Bayern too if they win Bundesliga. You might get an upset once every 5 years or so, from either the Portuguese or French champions.

The format should just be left as it is. Funnily enough, the one competition that does need a makeover is the one you said was fine - the UEFA Cup. The group system is nonsense. 2nd place in these groups ends up playing one of the CL drop-outs - usually a far harder task than playing a winner of another UEFA Cup group. It should go back to a straight knockout, and probably limit the number of teams to just 5th place or national cup winners, and CL drop outs to maintain a reasonable quality.

Absolutely no it couldn't work for all the reasons that have been mentioned. Whilst it looks like a mouth watering prospect, the format should be left the way it is. And I completely agree that the UEFA Cup needs a makeover.

I'm sorry Astafjevs do you care if the sponsors are not interested in these games for me as fan i would go!!??

and crappy tournament??i give you the winners for the last ten years:Lazio,Chelsea,Barcelona,Paris Saint germain,Arsenal,AC Parma,Werder Bremen,Man Utd,Sampdoria ,Zaragoza and Barca again .......

    Astafjevs:

The by far richest team(Bayern Munchen) in the uefa cup last year with buying players like Ribbery and Toni didn't make it to the final though?!?!

Speaking by own expirence Feyenoord won the Uefa cup in 2002 while AC,Inter milan and Dortmund where the other 3 completing the semi-finals..

I still think it aint right that the turkish champion by example plays knock out fase while the spanish, italian and english nr 4 paly the headtournament

simly aint fair !and the poule system in the uefacup manages the smaller(with all respect)teams to save money and keep up with the top in their own country

    wich i prefer since i see 17 home games+cup+european!!and a couple away games ..

Feyenoord is not a matter of life or death,it is much more than that!

You're in the minority if you'd go to a Cup Winners Cup match. Just look at the crowds for the UEFA Cup. Clubs just aren't selling out their matches, unless it is a QF final game or a group game against a big club. And this is in a competition that is far better than the 3rd rate Cup Winners Cup. You've listed winners of that trophy at a time when the Champions League didn't allow the top-4. It was top-2 for most countries, and so the other big teams filtered out into the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup. It wouldn't happen anymore, because all the big clubs make it into the Champions League, a few into the UEFA Cup. It would leave only the rubbish for the Cup Winners Cup - meaning nobody would watch it.

Bayern didn't make the final because they underestimated Zenit. Make no mistake, they were - and still are - a better side than them. They didn't take it seriously enough, which is the danger when there is one clearly huge and prestigious club in such a low rate competition. They took the game too lightly.

With regards to your comment on Turkish champions qualifying e.t.c. - the reason for that is very simple, £££££. England, Italy and Spain offer the most TV coverage and pay the biggest amount. As I mentioned, they also happen to be better than the Turkish champions. UEFA aren't silly, lack of big clubs results in less interest - therefore less £££.

In all honesty the Champions League is a European super league in all but name already, since its formation it has been geared towards making the rich richer and the poor poorer. By entering the third and fourth teams from England, Spain etc and giving them access to huge tv and sponsorship money, it is ensuring that there is a quality gap between them and the smaller European leagues.

Depends on how you look at the game as a fan,i dont care if i sit at a game with 20.000 people

where there is room for 45.000,The Great Juventus with so many prices playes their games for hardley 5 to 10.000 people

weekly...Gloryhunters when they plau quarter or semi finals???seems like it to me nevertheless it takes the shine of club 4 me

something like The old lady has 50.000 empty benches each week as you can see but luckley the have a lot of money and throphies....

Why not not all stay at home to watch the game ,saves you money for the seasonticket

Quite simple if they were they would have won, welcome to the charmes of football

    .

Ever seen the budget of a team like Fenerbache and the amount they spent each year???

    Astafjevs:

I think they sometimes are!!! sometimes  like a lot of fans they seem to forget what the sport is  about and how it started

My team by example got suspended after the riots in Nancy(agree wasn,t the first time etc etc)

But the thing that bothers me is that in that same year "the red army"makes a lot of problems in Rome for the championsleague

also in the home game and in a game in france with people injured, teargassgranates from the froggy police etc etc and they get a penalty from a couple of pound wich they easy pay...are these the advantages of the big clubs??ther are more examples not regarding my club from Fifa/Uefa policy

Again:in the end it's how you look at the game:nothing personal to you

furtherone i agree with the words from...58 beneath you !!in the end the gap between bigger and smaller clubs will become bigger and bigger !!shame....

There should be 2 leagues and the winners play in the final . The top 2 from the top 10 countries. Ranked on domestic positions per year.

    Man Utd                                                                 Chelsea

Yes I Just really enjoyed the champions league in 1992/93 (WHICH had just 8 teams) which include Olympique de Marseille, and Glasgow Rangers going head to head in the group stage for a place in the final playing some dream team soccer along the way to reach the final against AC MILAN.

I am now fed up and very bored with the rubbish served up in football in the likes of the UEFA champions League that seems to drg on and on and as one fellow fans said the champions League with 32 team is like fast food loads of it and it is a polie of rubbish with the odd exception.

Since the Champions League has given us most of the disdvanrtages you would get from a European Super League the rich getting richer and the poor pooer if we had a European Super League than we would get it's advantages like dream team soccer provided there at it consisits of at least two divisions to give is promtoion and relegation and preven ti from becoming too stale.

I want to be enthrolled by football and rush home to watch it like I did with Marseille in 1992/93 rather than to not bored to death by it like the 2008 champions League Final.

The majority of people are like me not good enough to compete in football and my point is that the creation of European Super is not going to make a difference to most people's chances of playing at the top level of soccer.  basically most teams/clubs position in football will not be effected by a europea super League as long as it is ased on merit i.e the good remian good the rubbish remain rubbish.

If  a European Super League was created when football was first created thenpeople would be used to it and not complaining about it now.

A Country tends to have a national league format then "if a United states of Europe was created then it would be logical to follow suite especially as switzerland has a super league so why not europe?
