However, he has revealed he has a soft spot for the Reds, where he spent five months on loan in early 2002 from Paris Saint-Germain, scoring four league goals in 17 appearances.
“I played my best football at Liverpool. I played in my best position," he said.
“There was Michael Owen, who’s a natural goalscorer, and Emile Heskey, who sets lots of things up for you.
“The three of us complemented each other. My main aim is to play well and that’s where I differ from real strikers.”
The 30-year-old Frenchman began his English tutelage at Arsenal in 1997 and has also featured for Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton and now Chelsea as well as plying his trade abroad with Real Madrid, PSG and Fenerbahce.
But he confesses that it is the Premier League that has a special place in his heart.
“My relationship with English football is a love story. England is a wonderful country," he said.
“I’ve lived in France, Spain and Turkey but England is the place where I’m happiest.”
