Italy federation complains over Bayern goal

Reuters - Thursday 18 February 2010, 16:30

MILAN - Italian football federation chief Giancarlo Abete telephoned UEFA president Michel Platini on Thursday to complain about Bayern Munich's second goal in a 2-1 Champions League win over Fiorentina.

Replays showed Miroslav Klose was two metres offside in Wednesday's first knockout round first leg in Germany but Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo gave the goal.

"It was an error that decided the game. Errors happen but this was serious, we are not talking about centimetres but metres," Abete told reporters having spoken to Platini.

Furious Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle said the assistant referee should "go to an opticians."
