Vela ready to take Premier League by storm

After a three-year wait, Mexican striker Carlos Vela says he is ready to take the Premier League by storm and repay the faith shown in him by manager Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners have had to bide their time to blood their £2.5m Mexican striker, after two-and-a-half years spent waiting for a UK work permit during which time Vela was loaned out to Salamanca and then Osasuna in Spain.

But the 19-year-old - who joined Arsenal from Celta Vigo in January 2007 - has now been granted a work permit this season and in an exclusive interview in the October issue of FourFourTwo magazine - out now - he says he is eager to burst onto the first-team scene and make the most of the opportunity.

"Arsenal give opportunities to young players, and with great success," he says. "Arsene Wenger knows what he wants and knows how to get the best out of you. That is why he gets such an impressive response from his players."

Vela has already impressed during the Gunners' pre-season campaign and made his Premier League debut last weekend, coming off the bench for the final half-hour of the 3-0 win over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium.

"When you watch Arsenal on TV it looks so smooth and easy," he said, "but there's hard work behind it! I just hope I'll be able to adapt to their style quickly.

"In football there's always pressure. That's part of the game. I don't fear it. I prefer to talk about motivation: you want to give 100 percent and I'm just longing to give 100 percent for Arsenal."
