Dubai tower-block to be named after Gerrard

442 Staff - Thursday 04 December 2008, 13:03

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is to have a £150million apartment block named after him.

The England midfielder will pocket a cool £1million in the deal, as well as being given a £1.2million apartment from Azizi Investments building the tower on Palm Jebel Ali, in Dubai.

The 28-year-old Kop hero, who is a Freeman of the Borough in Knowsley, said: "It's a real privilege to be part of such a pioneering project."

Gerrard is the first footballer to sign up with the development firm, but he's not the only sports star to have a tower named after him – and he's in fine company.

Legends Michael Schumacher and Boris Becker also have developments named in their honour on the man-made islands off the Dubai coast.

An Aziz spokesman said: "Steven Gerrard is one of the biggest sporting stars in the world and it gives us great pleasure to work with him.

"For Steven to endorse one of our most prestigious projects is a real honour. It will be an iconic piece of architecture."
