Manchester City keen on Dzeko deal

442 Staff - Thursday 04 June 2009, 16:35

Manchester City have entered the race to sign Wolfsburg hot-shot Edin Dzeko, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Bosnian front-man's 26 league goals in 2008/09 - alongside strike-partner Grafite's 28 - helped fire Wolfsburg to their first ever German league crown under Felix Magath.

His devastating form has alerted a string of English big-hitters including Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, with the latter's first-team coach Boro Primorac admitting earlier in the season that the Gunners were monitoring the progress of the 23-year-old.

And an end-of-season switch to English shores became more likely after the former FK Teplice forward admitted he was unhappy with Magath choosing to leave for Schalke this summer.

Chelsea have already made contact regarding a possible move for the goal-machine, with the player revealing:

“I know that Chelsea want me and they have already spoken to my agent with Wolfsburg."

However, Mark Hughes' cash-rich Blues are now thought to have joined the hunt for one of Europe's deadliest marksmen.

The Eastlands outfit have already splashed out £12 million on Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry this week.
