Ronaldo: Rooney is best player in England

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has praised former team-mate Wayne Rooney, claiming he is the best player in the Premier League.

The Portuguese winger, who completed an £80m move to Real Madrid on Wednesday, believes that Rooney is the stand-out player in the English game – and anticipates further success for the Old Trafford club.

“For me they will still win the Premier League next year, and I hope for a long time to come.”

Ronaldo, who scored 84 times in 196 appearances for the Red Devils said that it was a ‘privilege’ to play alongside the Scouser during his time in the Premier League.

“It is a league of amazing talent, but for me the stand-out player is Wayne Rooney. His ability is fantastic, but his attitude when he plays football is that he is willing to die for the team."

Ronaldo’s comments come just days after Rooney revealed he believes he is capable of filling in for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, who has also left Old Trafford.

“Cristiano and Carlos scored a lot of goals for us last season and the season before, but I would like to think I'm capable of filling that gap,” stated the England man.
