However, the 6ft 7in forward is believed to be disappointed with the club’s decision to sell star performers Lassana Diarra and Jermaine Defoe since his arrival.
And with fellow lynchpins Sylvain Distin and Sol Campbell also being linked with moves away - and the club still being without a permanent manager while the takeover by UAE businessman Sulaiman al-Fahim continues - Crouch may be tempted to depart for pastures new.
Blackburn, Fulham and Sunderland are all thought to be keen on acquiring the 28-year-old, who has netted 16 times for his country.
And the Black Cats' boss Bruce has revealed he has made an approach for his services.
“He is a player I have admired for a very long time and I suppose a lot of managers do exactly the same thing," he told Sky Sports.
“As far as I am aware - and I've just come off the training ground - we are in discussions with the club and that's as far as it is at the moment.
“But the discussions have been going on now for a few weeks. We hope we can try to put something together because he would be the type of player of course that would signal our intention of the way we want to take the football club forward."
