Chamakh slammed by Cascarino

Arsenal have been linked with a £7 million bid for the Moroccan international to replace Emmanuel Adebayor, with the towering Togolese target-man having joined Manchester City.

But, according to the player, it is the Gunners' arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Sunderland, Blackburn and Fulham, that have agreed terms with the forward - who has scored 15 goals for his country - with Chamakh admitting he had all-but given up hope of a dream move to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently revealed that he was still keeping an eye on the situation regarding the in-demand 25-year-old.

However, the Frenchman should turn his attentions elsewhere, according to former Nancy and Marseille striker Cascarino, who believes Chamakh dives too much and would not be a worthwhile investment.

“Chamakh is technically very good and is similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in his style, tricks and even his looks,” he said.

“However, he’s very much a poor man’s version as he’s nowhere near as good. In fact, he is like Ronaldo at his worst in terms of going to ground at every opportunity.

“The Moroccan is one of the worst around in terms of looking for fouls and penalties. He also scores nowhere near as many goals as his Portuguese lookalike.

“What he does possess is quick feet, a good ability on the ball and a decent aerial strength as you’d expect seeing as he is 6 ft 2.

“However, every time I’ve seen him play, he’s been very frustrating, mainly because he goes down so easily. I’ve found myself looking out for snipers in the crowd.”
