Mascherano tired of Premier League life

The Argentinean captain has made 59 league appearances for the Reds - scoring once - since arriving following a troubled spell with West Ham in 2007.

However, the former River Plate and Corinthians enforcer has regularly been tipped to leave Anfield during the close-season, with European champions Barcelona strongly linked with the 25-year-old.

With Barca's arch-rivals Real Madrid struggling to seal a deal for fellow Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, the Bernabeu giants are also believed to be ready to turn their attentions to Mascherano.

And the player's agent, Walter Tamer, has revealed that Mascherano is keen on a switch to the Camp Nou and is unhappy with the ongoing uncertainty regarding his future.

"Barcelona is the easiest deal to set up as Javier wants to go to Spain. He is tired of life in England,” he said.

"His wife has not been given a permanent visa. She has to go through an odyssey each time she wants to go.

"Liverpool refuse to sell, this can be overcome with an extraordinary offer."
