Comolli: Matuidi not for sale

442 Staff - Friday 07 August 2009, 16:32

St Etienne sporting director Damien Comolli has ruled out the possibility of coveted midfielder Blaise Matuidi leaving the club this summer, insisting the player is not for sale.

The 22-year-old has made more than 60 appearances in all competitions for the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard outfit since arriving from Troyes in 2007, and earned caps at both French U19 and U21 level, making 24 outings for the latter.

And, as a result, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have all been linked with moves for the midfield enforcer during the close-season.

Comolli, a former Gunners scout and Spurs director of football, had previously admitted that although St Etienne were loathed to let go of their prize asset, they may have no choice should a big club make a move for his services.

However, he has since changed his stance, stating instead that Matuidi is going nowhere

“The player is not for sale," Comolli told BBC Sport.

"I'm not aware of any club being interested in him."
