Moyes: No move made for Kranjcar

The playmaker became the third Portsmouth player to re-join Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane on transfer deadline day, following Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch to North London.

Reports in the British media claimed that David Moyes was also keen on recruiting the Croatia international, who made 80 league appearances for Pompey.

However, the Scot has since insisted that the Merseysiders made no approach of any kind for the former Hadjuk Split man.

"Not at any point did anyone from the club contact Portsmouth to express an interest in Niko Kranjcar," he told his club's official website.

"In Steven Pienaar and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov we already have players who provide excellent cover in his chosen position."

While chairman Bill Kenwright revealed his astonishment at the reports linking the Toffees with the player.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I read what Kranjcar is alleged to have said," he said.

"We made no approach either to Portsmouth or to the player's representatives.

"Maybe he was talking about Everton Chile!"
