Aquilani slams Roma recovery methods

442 Staff - Tuesday 06 October 2009, 19:25

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has slammed the treatment-table methods of former club Roma, saying Rafael Benitez's staff take an entirely different approach to curing injuries.

The 25-year-old joined the Anfield outfit earlier this summer in the wake of Xabi Alonso's departure to Real Madrid, but has been unable to make his debut after undergoing ankle surgery in Italy.

Having been carefully nursed back to full-fitness on Merseyside, the Italian international could be set to make his Liverpool bow against Sunderland on October 17.

And the playmaker - who has been dogged by a string of injuries in recent years - has criticised the Giallorossi's treatment methods at the Stadio Olimpico, suggesting that he may have been rushed back into first-team action in the past when not fully fit.

"I changed many doctors at Roma and there was never any consistency in the treatment to cure me," he said in Il Corriere Dello Sport.

"I have noted a big difference here [at Liverpool]. From the first moment I was told I would not be rushed back into action to avoid further problems.

"Now I cannot wait to put all my physical problems behind me."
