Arsenal monitoring Anderlecht starlet

442 Staff - Monday 19 October 2009, 17:35

Arsenal are tracking the progress of talented Anderlecht forward Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

The 16-year-old is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football, having netted four goals in his first seven league appearances for the Belgian giants.

The 6ft 4in striker - who is also thought to be a target of Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan - has already featured for his country at U21 level, scoring once in three appearances.

And as a result, Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger reportedly sent former Arsenal captain Tony Adams to scout the teenage talent at the weekend, with the ex-Portsmouth boss returning home having seen Lukaku score Anderlecht's second in a 2-0 victory over Charleroi.

“Ever since he started to play, they've been calling for him. But I immediately hang up the phone then," said Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck in the Daily Mail.

"It's good that we managed to keep such a player. Together with him and his family we made some agreements concerning the future.

"I think it's better for him to stay here for a while.”
