Ferguson impressed with Akinfeev

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that he was impressed with CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev's display during the side's Champions League clash at the Luzhniki Stadium.

The Red Devils were thwarted by the Russian international for 86 minutes on Wednesday night before Antonio Valencia's effort ensured the Premier League champions maintained their 100 percent record in Europe.

Akinfeev, 23, has made more than 160 league appearances for CSKA, as well as featuring 37 times for his country, helping Guus Hiddink's side reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008.

And as a result, reports have surfaced linking the shot-stopper with a move to United, who have been tipped to sign a string of goalkeepers to fill 38-year-old Dutchman Edwin van der Sar's boots when he eventually retires.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League encounter, the 67-year-old Scot denied he was weighing up a move for Akinfeev.

However, after the match, Ferguson admitted he had been impressed by the glove-man, as well as Serbian wide-man Milos Krasic.

"Krasic, without question, created a bit of concern. He is a very talented player," he said in the Manchester Evening News.

"After that I thought the goalkeeper was outstanding. He was very impressive."
