Lampard out of Brazil friendly

LONDON - England coach Fabio Capello will be without both his first choice central midfielders for Saturday's friendly against Brazil in Qatar after Chelsea's Frank Lampard injured his thigh.

"We can confirm that Frank Lampard picked up an injury to his thigh whilst training today and will be returning home this evening. There will be no further call-ups to the squad," an FA spokesman said on Thursday.

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, who has been troubled by a groin injury, did not travel to Doha with the squad despite playing in his side's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City on Monday.

Gerrard's Liverpool team mate Glen Johnson also withdrew from Capello's squad while midfielder David Beckham misses the game because of playing commitments with LA Galaxy.
