Reyes: Fabregas will not leave Arsenal

442 Staff - Monday 16 November 2009, 17:41

Atletico Madrid forward Jose Antonio Reyes believes Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will not leave the Gunners for former club Barcelona anytime soon.

The Emirates Stadium skipper has made 170 Premier League appearances for Arsene Wenger's side since joining from the Catalan club's youth ranks in 2003.

However, the 22-year-old continues to be linked with a return to the Camp Nou in the near future, with speculation rife that the central midfielder will depart next summer should Arsenal end a fifth consecutive season without any silverware.

But the Gunners' free-scoring start to the Premier League season - with 36 goals in their opening 11 games guiding them to second place - has sparked hope that the North Londoners may soon finally lift their first trophy since the 2005 FA Cup.

And former Arsenal forward Reyes - now with Atletico Madrid - believes Fabregas, who has already netted nine times this term, will resist the urge to return to Spain come the end of the campaign.

"People talk about Cesc Fabregas as if his move back to Spain is imminent but I can’t see him leaving Arsenal now or in the foreseeable future," he said in the Sunday Mirror.

"He is in his element and captains a side with vast potential."
