Pique: Fabregas will return to Barca

442 Staff - Monday 16 November 2009, 17:56

Former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique believes Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will eventually return to European champions Barcelona and not join arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Fabregas has been in inspirational form for Arsenal in 2009/10, scoring nine goals in his 15 appearances, leading to renewed speculation that the 22-year-old will move back to Spain next summer.

The Spanish international, who has made 46 appearances for his country, has continually denied talk of him departing the Emirates Stadium.

However, fellow countryman Pique is convinced Fabregas, who joined the Gunners in 2003 from the Catalan club, will team up with him at the Camp Nou in the not-too-distant future.

"Cesc will end up wearing the Blaugrana shirt one day, I’ve always said that," he said in Sport.

"I’m sure that the canterano class of ’87 will find themselves together. Cesc prefers to keep his opinion to himself."

Barca's fierce rivals Real have also been linked with the Arsenal star, but Pique laughed off the idea.

"I’d hate to see him at Real Madrid and I don’t think it will happen," he said.

"In football, you can’t use the word impossible, but I don’t believe it will occur."
