Gibbs set for three month layoff

Reuters - Wednesday 25 November 2009, 11:19

LONDON - Arsenal expect England under-21 full-back Kieran Gibbs to be out for three months after he broke a bone in his left foot in Tuesday's Champions League game against Standard Liege.

The Premier League club said on their website that the player would undergo surgery on Wednesday.

Arsenal, who face leaders Chelsea in the big Premier League match at the weekend, had better news about William Gallas after the French defender had a bloody collision with team-mate Andrei Arshavin.

"Gallas has an ankle problem and a swollen eye," said manager Arsene Wenger.

"I think he will recover for Sunday, we hope so. It wasn't concussion but he couldn't see anymore because his eye was swollen.

"Arshavin has some staples in his head. He will be available for Sunday," he added.
