Wenger mulling Dzeko move

442 Staff - Thursday 03 December 2009, 17:56

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will step up his interest in VfL Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko – linked with AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur – by making a £15 million bid for the Bosnian, according to The Sun.

The Gunners boss’ search for a forward is set to intensify during the January transfer window following the news that Robin van Persie will be sidelined for up to five months.

The Dutchman suffered ankle ligament damage while on international duty and Wenger is keen to bolster his attacking options in Van Persie’s absence.

Dzeko has attracted widespread interest from across Europe after bagging 26 goals in the Bundesliga last season in a formidable partnership with Brazilian team-mate Grafite.

The 23-year-old recently penned a new four-year deal with the German champions but continues to be linked with a move away from the Volkswagen Arena.
