Magath refutes Neuer reports

442 Staff - Thursday 03 December 2009, 18:13

Schalke 04 manager Felix Magath has rubbished reports linking highly-rated goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a move away from the German club to Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has previously been tipped to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, while the player’s agent Thomas Kroth recently claimed the Red Devils were also keeping a close eye on the German international.

Neuer is contracted to the Royal Blues until 2012, but it has been suggested that Magath’s side will be forced to sell key players amid growing financial problems.

However, the Schalke boss is adamant the club have no intentions to cash in on any of their squad – least of all their talented young glove-man.

“I have said that Manuel Neuer is not for sale and there is no more news on this,” Magath told Bild.

“We have a strong desire to play in the Champions League again. Therefore we are going to need our best players.

“I am definitely not prepared to sell potentially the best shot-stopper in Germany."
