Ferguson rules out Dzeko deal

442 Staff - Tuesday 08 December 2009, 16:01

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has cooled speculation suggesting VfL Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko – also linked with AC Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur – is high on the Scot’s January wish-list.

The in-demand Bosnian international is currently one of the hottest properties in European football after bagging 40 goals in 75 Bundesliga appearances.

Dzeko recently signed a new contract with the German club but has constantly been tipped to join a host of major clubs – including the Red Devils.

Ferguson, however, has rubbished reports predicting the 23-year-old to move to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.

“It is an age-old story,” Ferguson said in the Daily Mail.

“There is nothing from Manchester United at this moment concerning Edin Dzeko.”

Dzeko netted in Wolfsburg’s narrow 2-1 defeat to United earlier in the season and the 67-year-old admits the striker’s goalscoring exploits at Old Trafford were the catalyst for the fabricated transfer rumours.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been linked with CSKA Moscow duo Igor Akinfeev and Milos Krasic following stand-out performances against Ferguson’s side in the Champions League.

“Every time someone does well against Manchester United we are going to buy him the next day.”

The United boss will have another chance to cast his eye over Dzeko when the Red Devils take on Wolfsburg in their final Group B encounter on Tuesday evening.
