Sol Campbell linked with United switch

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly considering a move for former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender Sol Campbell to ease his defensive crisis.
French left-back Patrice Evra was the only first-team defender fit to face Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Gary Neville, Fabio and Rafael da Silva all sidelined.
And as a result, the 67-year-old Scot is believed to see Campbell - a free agent following his departure from Notts County - as the ideal man to provide cover, stability and experience at the back for the reigning Premier League champions.
Should a deal come to fruition, it will complete a sensational turnaround for the 35-year-old former England international, who began the season playing for cash-rich League Two side County.
Campbell’s move to the Magpies in the summer surprised the football world, expecting the stopper - released by Portsmouth at the end of last season - to remain in the Premier League.
However, the move soon turned sour with the defender - capped 73 times by England - playing just once in a 2-1 loss to Morecambe in September before walking out.
A contract with the Old Trafford outfit until the end of the season is now reportedly in the offering for Campbell, who is currently training with former club Arsenal in order to maintain fitness his levels.
Campbell could now switch training camps from the Gunners to United, allowing the Reds' medical staff to assess his condition.
