Modric steps up Spurs comeback

Reuters - Wednesday 09 December 2009, 15:44

LONDON - Tottenham Hotspur's Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has stepped up his comeback from a broken fibula with a successful appearance in a training ground friendly, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old international began the season in inspired form for Spurs before picking up the injury against Birmingham City on Aug. 29 after an innocuous-looking collision with Lee Bowyer.

"I feel good. I didn't feel any pain and that's the most important thing. It's great to be back and I'm happy. It's a relief after three months," Modric told the club website.

Modric played 70 minutes of Tuesday's 5-2 win over minor league side Grays Athletic in front of Spurs manager Harry Redknapp and is now targeting a first team return.

"I can't wait to play again. The last three months have been hard but that's behind me now and I feel happy and relieved.

"I will take it step by step and I'll have to see now when the manager decides to put me back in the squad."
