Capello set for knee surgery

Reuters - Tuesday 05 January 2010, 02:13

LONDON - England manager Fabio Capello is due to undergo knee surgery this week which is likely to result in the Italian needing crutches for the next six weeks, two British newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The Sun tabloid newspaper said Capello, 63, was due to have an operation in Italy to replace his left kneecap.

The report said Capello was likely to need crutches for the next six weeks and it could be three months before he is fully mobile again.

Capello, who is regularly spotted at English Premier League matches, guided England to the 2010 World Cup finals, where they have been drawn to face the United States, Algeria and Slovenia.

England are next due to play a friendly against Egypt at Wembley in March.

No one at the Football Association was immediately available to comment. The Times broadsheet newspaper also reported the story on its website.
