Wenger denies Sorensen swoop

442 Staff - Tuesday 09 February 2010, 14:50

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied reports that he attempted to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen shortly before the winter transfer window slammed shut.

Question marks continue to be raised about the capabilities of current Arsenal shot-stoppers Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski and Vito Mannone, leading to speculation linking the Gunners with a clutch of custodians.

Former Aston Villa glove-man Sorensen - who has made more than 50 league appearances for the Potters since arriving in 2008 - was believed to be on Wenger's wish-list.

The Danish international's future at the Britannia Stadium had been doubted following the capture of Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, with fellow Pompey stopper David James also courted by City supremo Tony Pulis.

However, Wenger - speaking ahead of his side's crucial league clash against Liverpool - denied that he had made a move for Sorensen.

"No, no," he stressed when questioned on the 'keeper.
