Businessman Greg Clarke said
his experience of helping Leicester City out of financial crisis
would be invaluable to the Football League after he was
confirmed as its new chairman on Friday.
The 52-year-old former chief executive of communications
company Cable and Wireless and chairman of Championship club Leicester takes over from Brian Mawhinney who is
standing down after seven years.
"I am honoured to be taking up the position of Chairman of
The Football League. As a lifelong and committed football fan it
is a privilege to serve the game in this capacity," Clarke said
in a Football League statement.
"My time at Leicester City provided an insight into the
challenges clubs face on a daily basis. The lessons learnt from
that experience will not be forgotten."
Clarke joined the Leicester City Board in 2000 and helped
them through administration in 2002.
