Galliani hopeful of Dzeko signing

442 Staff - Thursday 18 June 2009, 16:55

AC Milan vice-president, Adriano Galliani says he is hopeful of soon concluding a deal for Wolfsburg goal-machine Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian front-man's 26 league goals in 2008/09 - alongside strike-partner Grafite's 28 - helped fire the Wolves to their first ever German league crown under Felix Magath.

His devastating form alerted a string of English big-hitters including Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, while Milan were reported to have signed a pre-agreement with the striker, giving the Italians first option on the in-form front-man.

And the Rossoneri chief has revealed that the San Siro side are hopeful of sealing a deal for the in-demand striker.

"There's nothing more to say. He is a player that interests us very much," he told Sky Sports.

"I am talking with Wolfsburg and I think there is a possibility.

"We hope to conclude that transfer, but if not we will find another goal-scorer. After that, Milan will conclude their transfer campaign by buying a central defender.

"Overall, if we succeed, we will have bought a new striker and central defender, because our new coach [Leonardo] wants to play with a 4-3-3 formation.

"Then we would have Pato, Dzeko, Inzaghi, Borriello and Ronaldinho. In my opinion we would be well covered up front."
