Kjaer committed to Palermo

442 Staff - Wednesday 01 July 2009, 15:14

Danish defender Simon Kjaer says he is fully committed to Palermo amid rumours linking him with a move abroad.

The 20-year-old centre-back made 27 league appearances - netting three goals - in 2008/09 in his first season in Serie A having joined from FC Midtjylland, earning a debut cap for his country as a result.

His impressive form is believed to have alerted Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool, while Real Madrid have also been linked with the starlet's services in the past.

However, Kjaer has moved to quash talk of him leaving Italy after just one season, although he admitted it is his objective to one day move on to bigger and better things.

“I discovered a new world, played a lot under [former manager Davide] Ballardini, netted three goals and debuted for the Danish national team," he told La Gazzetta Dello Sport,

"I hope I will be able to prove I can be a leader now that I know Calcio much better.

“I will be more focused on Palermo and will stay put for the entire season. But my objective is indeed to go to a bigger club and establish myself as a first-teamer.”
