United weighing up Jovetic bid

442 Staff - Thursday 22 October 2009, 16:10

Manchester United are weighing up a €28 million move for Fiorentina starlet Stevan Jovetic, according to reports in Italy.

The 19-year-old has already netted seven league goals in 36 appearances for la Viola and eight in 12 outings for Montenegro.

But he shot to stardom in Fiorentina's recent Champions League win over Liverpool, with Jovetic scoring both goals in the 2-0 victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Speculation soon surfaced linking the 'Montenegrin Messi' with moves to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

And although both the club and player have dismissed reports tipping him to depart for pastures new, Sir Alex Ferguson's side remain keen on recruiting the youngster before his value increases any higher and will submit a €28 million offer for his services, according to Radio Viola.

However, Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino recently became the latest club chief to insist that Jovetic is staying put.

"He is determined to stay here as he loves it in Florence,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“He doesn’t have many doubts and I am happy. I see him destined to become a legend of this club, like so many champions have been in the past.”
