Agent: Appiah open to Bologna move

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah would welcome a January move to Serie A side Bologna, according to the player's agent.

The 28-year-old central midfielder has been a free agent since leaving Fenerbahce last year having endured a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

Appiah spent time on trial at Spurs last January, with both Arsenal and West Ham also linked with moves for the player.

However, nothing ever materialised, with question marks over Appiah's fitness believed to be preventing a deal from being completed.

Having also trained with Russian champions Rubin Kazan, the midfield powerhouse has since been tipped to sign for Catania, Schalke and several French outfits.

But a recent poll of Bologna fans revealed that the majority of Rossoblu supporters would like to see Appiah sign for the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara outfit.

And the player's representitive, Luca Pagani, has admitted he would be open to a move when the winter transfer window opens in the New Year.

“I recently read a survey on the Bologna website, and the fans seem to want Appiah at their club,” he told Itasportpress.

“At the moment I don’t have any information to confirm the existence of a real negotiation. However, we are really hoping that the rumours in the media are a good omen for this transfer to go through in January.”

Pagani was also keen to stress that Appiah has now completely recovered from his long-standing knee complaint, and that reports in the past suggesting the former Juventus and Parma battler could not sign for a new club until he paid Fenerbahce $2.3 million for breaching his contract were rubbish.

“I can confirm that Appiah is fine, and that he has resolved his physical ailments. This is a certainty," he said.

“Not only that, but it has been rumoured for some time now that he also has problems with FIFA and other entities, things that are absolutely untrue.”
