Bologna sign Stephen Appiah

442 Staff - Monday 02 November 2009, 01:35

MILAN - Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah has joined Bologna, the Serie A side said on their website on Sunday.

The 28-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Fenerbahce last year, and spent time on trial at Tottenham Hotspur in January, with both Arsenal and West Ham United also linked with moves for the player.

Nothing ever came to fruition, with question marks surrounding Appiah's fitness thought to be preventing a deal from being done.

And having also trained with Russian champions Rubin Kazan, the former Parma and Juventus powerhouse had been tipped to sign for both Catania and Schalke.

But a recent poll of Bologna fans revealed that the majority of Rossoblu supporters would like to see Appiah sign for the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara outfit.

And after the player's representitive, Luca Pagani, admitted he would be open to a move to the Serie A strugglers, it appears Appiah has got his wish.

No details on the length of contract have been released.
