PARIS - Paris St Germain advanced to the
semi-finals of the French League Cup on Wednesday by beating
second division Racing Lens 2-0 in a trouble-free rematch of
last year's controversial final.
Some PSG fans held up an abusive banner aimed at their
visitors during the 2008 title match, won 2-1 by the Paris side
last March at the Stade de France.
The French League initially banned PSG from this year's
edition but a civil court later quashed that decision and the
two sides met again on Wednesday, this time at Parc des Princes,
where no incidents were reported.
Mali midfielder Sidi Keita put PSG in front with an own goal
on 13 minutes, sending the ball into his net with his chest from
a corner, and substitute midfielder Jeremy Clement wrapped up
the win from inside the box in added time.
PSG will next meet Girondins Bordeaux, who thrashed the
Paris club 4-0 in Ligue 1 on Sunday and advanced by overcoming
second division Chateauroux 2-1 at home on Wednesday.
Nice and second division Vannes progresses on Tuesday with
wins over Le Havre and second division Metz respectively and
will play each other for a place in the final.
The semi-finals are on February 3-4.
