Wichniarek heads back to Hertha

BERLIN - Former Poland striker Artur Wichniarek has signed a two-year contract with Hertha Berlin, the club said on Friday.

Hertha paid a reported 1-million-euro transfer fee to relegated Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld for Wichniarek, 32, who scored 88 Bundesliga goals for Bielefeld in 207 matches from 2000 to 2003 and 2006 to 2009.

In between, he was at Hertha but scored only four goals in 44 appearances. "I want to take advantage of this second chance and make up for what I didn't do before," Wichniarek told Bild newspaper.
