Veh warning: Hands-off Dzeko

442 Staff - Monday 06 July 2009, 16:15

New manager of Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg, Armin Veh, has issued a hands-off warning to clubs still hoping to sign star striker Edin Dzeko this summer.

The Bosnian front-man's 26 league goals in 2008/09 - alongside strike-partner Grafite's 28 - helped fire the Wolves to their first ever German league crown under Felix Magath.

His devastating form in front of goal had alerted a string of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, before AC Milan were reported to have signed a pre-agreement with the striker, giving the Italians first option on the in-form front-man.

However, the player himself recently pledged his future to the German outfit, despite initially revealing his disappointment at not being allowed to join the Rossoneri.

And Veh, who took over at Wolfsburg following Magath’s departure at the end of last season, is understandably keen to keep hold of the in-demand striker, and has issued a strict hands-off warning to those still seeking his prize asset's signature.

“Selling him now would make no sense,” he told uefa.com.

“For the money offered we would struggle to get a player of a similar standard and it would give the wrong message to the rest of the team if I let him go.”
