ROTTERDAM - Twente Enschede went into the winter break on top of the Dutch league on Sunday after all five top-flight matches were postponed because of heavy snowfall.

Only the pitch for the match between NEC Nijmegen and Vitesse Arnhem had been declared unplayable but travel advice prompted the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to postpone all the day's matches.

"We spoke this morning to all clubs involved and to local authorities and it was not responsible to let fans travel to the matches," a KNVB spokeswoman said on the association's official website.

Twente, topping the table with 47 points from 17 matches, were supposed to face Utrecht away, while second-placed PSV Eindhoven (45) were scheduled to travel to Roda JC Kerkrade.

Ajax Amsterdam, who had been due to play at NAC Breda, remain third with 38 points, one ahead of Feyenoord who beat Willem II Tilburg 1-0 on Saturday.

The league will have a winter break and resume on January 22.

The Dutch Cup fourth round will be played next week.

Feyenoord host AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday, Twente will be at home to second division side Helmond Sport on Wednesday, while PSV and Ajax travel to Heerenveen and the amateurs of WHC Wezep respectively.
