ROTTERDAM - Twente Enschede fell two points behind Dutch league leaders PSV Eindhoven on Sunday after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Groningen.

Steve McClaren's Twente registered their second scoreless draw since the winter break while PSV cruised to a 3-0 home win over NEC Nijmegen on Friday.

PSV are top with 51 points after 19 matches with Twente on 49.

Third-placed Ajax Amsterdam (42) overcame AZ Alkmaar 1-0 with defender Gregory van der Wiel sealing the match with a tight-angled shot after 63 minutes.

Alkmaar had dominated the match and were unlucky when David Mendes da Silva hit the bar in the first half and Mounir El Hamdaoui was similarly denied early in the second half.

Ajax will travel to arch-rivals Feyenoord, who are fourth on 38 after a 1-1 draw at VVV Venlo, next Sunday.

Former Feyenoord player Patrick Paauwe scored an own goal after 65 minutes to gave the visitors the lead. Five minutes before time Ferry de Regt headed home the equaliser at the near post.
