France drawn with Ireland in Euro rehearsal

Reuters - Saturday 06 February 2010, 17:22

WARSAW - UEFA president Michel Platini said he would be delighted if his country France and Ireland were in the same group in Sunday's draw for the Euro 2012 qualifiers after they were paired together in Saturday's rehearsal.

"That gave us a laugh but certainly ... I would welcome it, why not?," Platini joked after France, among the top seeds, and Ireland, ranked in the third pot, were placed in the same group.

France defeated Ireland 2-1 on aggregate in a hugely controversial World Cup play-off last November.

Thierry Henry handled the ball twice in the build-up to France's second-leg goal scored by William Gallas - an incident that led to renewed calls for video technology to be used in top matches.
