River crush Boca in pre-season clash

BUENOS AIRES - River Plate drew first
blood in their first clash with arch-rivals Boca Juniors in 2010
when they beat them 3-1 to win an Argentine summer-recess
friendly in the Atlantic resort city of Mar del Plata.
Paraguayan Rodrigo Rojas scored three minutes into his River
debut and further goals by teenagers Gabriel Funes Mori and
Daniel Villalva, with a brilliant finish, in Thursday's win gave
the team hope they can put a dismal 2009 behind them.
Veteran striker Martin Palermo headed an equaliser for Boca
but shipping 10 goals in three summer friendlies does not augur
well for the future of coach Alfio "Coco" Basile or Argentina's
2006 World Cup goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri.
