BUENOS AIRES - Two players were sent off in
the first half of the Medellin derby in Colombia won by title
holders Independiente Medellin, while Barcelona continued with
their good start to the Ecuadorean championship at the weekend.
COLOMBIA
Two players were sent off in the first half of the "Clasico
de Antioquia" as champions Independiente Medellin won 2-1 away
to Atletico Nacional in the Apertura championship.
Independiente's Felipe Pardo (pictured) was the first to go after 25
minutes for elbowing midfielder Jose Amaya. Nacional's Andres
Mosquera followed in the 39th for his second yellow-card
offence.
Brazilian defender Anselmo de Almeida put the visitors ahead
after three minutes with a long-range shot following a poor
clearance from the Nacional defence.
Argentine striker Ezequiel Maggiolo equalised on the
half-hour when he lobbed Paraguayan keeper Aldo Bobadilla but
Independiente substitute Cesar Valoyes hit the winner 20 minutes
from time.
Nacional's Argentine goalkeeper Gaston Pezzuti was lucky to
escape a red card when he brought down forward Tressor Moreno.
ECUADOR
Barcelona, who flirted dangerously with relegation last
year, made it two wins out of two with a 3-0 away victory over
promoted Universidad Catolica in Quito.
Copa Sudamericana holders LDU Quito scored twice in the last
five minutes to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw away to Macara,
who scored twice through Argentine midfielder Gabriel Fernandez.
CHILE
Uruguayan midfielder Martin Liguera struck in the 27th
minute as Union Espanola beat champions Colo Colo 1-0 in the
Apertura championship.
Paraguayan Alejandro Da Silva scored a hat-trick in Santiago
Wanderers' 5-0 rout of La Serena.
Universidad de Chile, winners of last year's Apertura, beat
Huachipato 3-0 to lead the standings with nine points after four
matches.
PARAGUAY
Title holders Nacional beat 3 de Febrero 3-0 away to notch
up eight goals in two matches of the Apertura championship.
Guillermo Beltran, who scored the opening goal, took his
tally to five after hitting four in Nacional's 5-2 victory over
Sol de America in their opening match the previous weekend.
URUGUAY
Penarol opened a two-point lead in the Clausura championship
when they beat Racing 3-0 with two goals from captain Antonio
Pacheco for a maximum nine points after three matches.
Racing, who qualified for the Libertadores Cup group stage
for the first time last week, had Santiago Ostolaza sent off in
the 74th minute.
Defensor Sporting recovered a measure of self respect with a
1-0 away win over champions Nacional, their nemesis in the
2008-09 season title deciders, holding out after Diego de
Souza's fourth-minute goal. Nacional have four points.
